"Teaching Ethics through Music education in a Public School in Rio e Janeiro"

The purpose of my project is to examine the possibility of teaching ethics through Music Education classes in a public school in Brazil, its challenges as well and which are possible to be taught within this educational context. The aim of this study is to analyze the implementation of the school project about teaching ethics, the current school's music curriculum, the Brazilian education political policies concerning to the ethics topic and the current music classes at the researched school. The main issues of this research are about the importance of the music classes for the student formation and the virtues that teachers can teach during the music class. Moreover, what students think about the importance of virtues and values in their lives and which music activities related to ethics are possible to be done are also discussed. The theoretical foundation is based mainly on the thoughts of Aladair MacIntyre, Aristotle and Keith Swanwick.
