PhD-project:
„Pioneers of the Feminist Girl Youth Movement.“ (working title)
Abstract
The subject to be explored in this PhD project is the development of the feminist girl youth work movement in Germany. The point of departure is the assumption that the potential for societal change of social movements is to be found in emancipatory practices. This study uses autobiographical narrations of pioneers of the movement in order to retrospectively shine a light on the emancipatory practices themselves. The question is how the former pioneers interpret the connection between the feminist girl youth work movement and their own biographies. The project includes ten to twelve biographical-narrative interviews of pioneer workers in East and West Germany about their personal biographies and their involvement in the movement. On the theoretical level, the project aims to substantiate and delineate the term "movement" in the historical study of education through a redefinition of the existing concept of movement in the social sciences. One of the goals of the project is to offer a contribution to the study of the history of the feminist girl youth work movement and the re-politization of it. The overarching objective is to contribute to the study of the development of nonscholastic youth education in Germany and the influence of social movements after 1945.
