Promotionsprojekt:

The central aim of my newly started project is the formulation of a Merleau-Pontian theory of early childhood pedagogy. Merleau-Ponty is wildly known as an influential thinker from the phenomenological tradition, but even though he occupied himself with studies explicitly regarding childhood, child development, and pedagogy (Merleau-Ponty 2010; 1989), his influence on educational theory is often centred around his main works (Merleau-Ponty 2014; 1966; 1968) which is mainly concerned with the adult’s being in the world. My thesis is that his discussions of child psychology can be restated as child ontology. My main research question concerns how said ontology can serve as the foundation for an early childhood pedagogy – specifically aiming at the relation between children and adults.
