Research and Networking

In terms of academic research, this page contains a detailed text presenting an overview of the various types of documents in the archive. Keywords that are significant are marked as links in bold blue. In the following section, there are the descriptions of the networks of institutions and universities. Two graphics provide additional information, along with a downloadable list that can be used to print copies.

1. Research

The archive's collection of research and studies encompasses a wide range of topics. The works and documents relating to educational research can be subdivided into three categories: modern progressive education, educational reform and the development of educational theories. These include the works of the archive's founder, Professor Dr. Dietrich Benner, and its current director, Professor Dr. Malte Brinkmann, who specialises in  general and phenomenological educational studies respectively.

Another section of the archive contains pedagogical research documents and publications from the German Democratic Republic (GDR). The written documents were originally kept at the "House of the Teacher" in Berlin.  In the education systems of the former German Democratic Republic (GDR), great importance was attached to pedagogical and didactic research. Various research projects involved intensive exchanges within the education system, which were systematically recorded in written correspondence from the initial idea to application and subsequent approval or rejection. The archive makes available for inspection letters, minutes, circulars, reports, expert opinions and similar documents. The archive also holds bilingual university theses from this period, including habilitations and dissertations from Humboldt University.

In the area of education, collaborations between specialist schools and educational research are notable. These  reform and experimental schools, as well as research schools, are documented in numerous ways in the archives, including research assignments given to research teachers, the results of which were presented at conferences and professional meetings. The archive also contains invitations and programmes for most of these events.

The archive also contains a department with academic journals historical newspapers and magazines, and informational publications within.

The archive material represents a broad, academically developed collection for academic research and university teaching purposes.  Access is provided via the digital database. For more information, visit the archive's website.
