System of the Archiv

 

The Archive for Progressive Education was founded by Prof. Dr. h. c. mult. Dietrich Benner. Extensive research conducted through various projects by the German Research Foundation “Deutsche Forschungsge-meinschaft (DFG)” resulted in the development of a systematic approach that serves as the foundation of four volumes of “Theorie und Geschichte der Reformpädagogik” (Theory and History of Progressive Education), published in collaboration with Mr. Herwart Kemper, as well as subsequent multi-volume source books.

 

With particular respect to this approach and the archive, this distinctiveness is defined by the idea that progressive education goes beyond the classical period of the early 20th century, which includes the educational movement. Progressive education has been defined as a criterion of modern pedagogy in the process of modernization since the end of the 18th century, gradually being adopted by the “normal pedagogy”. The reforms were not started by non-governmental stakeholders initially.However, this changed after the year 1945. The last two volumes discuss this era, exploring the GDR school reforms and the output-related education reform that followed PISA.

 

The archive contains these titles arranged chronologically:

        1. Die Pädagogische Bewegung von der Aufklärung bis zum Ende der Preußischen Reformen
        2. Die Pädagogische Bewegung von der Jahrhundertwende bis zum Ende der Weimarer Republik (1900 bis 1933)
        3. Staatliche Schulreform, Schulversuche, erziehungswissenschaftliche Theorieentwicklung und Forschung in den beiden deutschen Nachkriegsstaaten (1945 bis 1990)
        4. Reformpädagogik und Schulreform im vereinigten Deutschland (nach 1990)
