Counselling

If you are interested in a semester abroad in the Erasmus+ programme, the Erasmus Office at the Institute of Education will be happy to advise you on all questions. Simply send us an e-mail or come to the Erasmus office during the current office hours.

Application

The Institute of Education has numerous exchange agreements with universities at various locations in Europe. You can find the current table here: Partner universities

Stays abroad in Great Britain are possible, but Erasmus funding is no longer available. However, you do not have to pay tuition fees. A PROMOS scholarship can be applied for to compensate for the Erasmus scholarship.

Conditions of participation 🖉

  • Enrolment in a HU degree programme leading to a university degree (including doctorate)
  • Sufficient knowledge of the language in which the courses to be attended are held (usually English, in some countries it is also possible to study in the national language)

Further information on participation requirements can be found on the website of the International Office.

Language skills 🖉

For a stay abroad as part of the Erasmus+ programme, you need good language skills in the language of the country or language of instruction in advance. You should therefore plan your stay well in advance so that you can take a language course at the Language Centre or have a language certificate issued if necessary.

Application procedure 🖉

Please use our application portal MoveON to apply. You can apply between 1 December and 31 January using the following documents:

  1. Application form
  2. Letter of motivation (approx. 1 DIN A4 page)
    • Why do I want to study abroad?
    • Why do I want to study at a particular university?
    • What extracurricular/voluntary activities can I demonstrate? (if possible with proof)
  3. Curriculum vitae in tabular form
  4. Proof of academic achievements (AGNES printout, Bachelor's certificate if applicable)
  5. Copy of study certificate
  6. Language certificate (not older than 2 years, can be submitted later in exceptional cases, e.g. HU language certificate B2 or equivalent language certificates e.g. Unicert II, TOEFL, Abitur certificate in the case of the French subject taken during stays in France)

Students will be selected after the application deadline. Depending on the partner university, you will receive an acceptance or rejection letter by the end of March at the latest. In the event that your first choice cannot be considered, please indicate a second or even third choice.

In case you also applied at another institute, please let us know.

If you study at another institute of Humboldt University applications are generally possible. However, please note that you must always study at our partner institute, i.e. the Institute of Educational Sciences. If you want to attend courses outside this institute at the partner university, you should get in contact with that partner university.

Financing 🖉

Make sure you have sufficient funding for your studies abroad in good time. Find out about the possibility of receiving BAföG abroad (ERASMUS grants are exempt from charges up to €300 per month). Parallel or double funding for similar costs from other EU programmes or the DAAD is not possible.

Subsidy

The subsidy is currently between €540 and €600, depending on the country. This is defined on the basis of the living costs of the country. Further information is available you can find at the International Office.

Additional funding
Students with children, students with disabilities or chronic illnesses, working students and first-time academics can apply for a social top-up of €250. Further information is available you can find at the International Office.

Preparation for your stay abroad

In preparation for your stay abroad, please be sure to read the pages of the International Office on the topic of Before departure.

Contact the partner university 🖉

If you have been accepted by a partner university, they will send you information about the further course of the procedure. In many cases, an application form or an online application for the partner university must be completed again.

IMPORTANT: Please make sure you meet all deadlines, otherwise you may be excluded from the exchange programme.

Online Learning Agreement (OLA) 🖉

As soon as possible, you should inform yourself about the course catalogue of the partner university and select suitable courses. Please make sure that you have actually selected the appropriate semester and that the courses are not those of the current semester.

An Online Learning Agreement (OLA) is concluded before the start of your stay. In the Learning Agreement, you specify which courses you would like to attend at the partner university and for which courses at HU you would like them to be recognised.

IMPORTANT: Before completing the OLA, please attend the compulsory information event and, if you have any further questions, our consultation at the Erasmus office. Current information about the event can be found in the contact details of our ERASMUS office.

You should aim for 25-30 ECTS (credits) per semester. Please contact your student academic advisor at an early stage to find out which planned courses can be credited and whether your own study plan may need to be adjusted. In order to prove that your courses will be recognised, please have the "Antrag auf Genehmigung" (formular for approval) signed by the student academic advisor.

Courses that cannot be categorised in the modules can be assigned to the ÜWP (Interdisciplinary elective courses) in accordance with your study regulations. If you have any questions about this, please contact the Student Advisory Service.

If you have any further questions about the OLA, please do not hesitate to contact us.

IMPORTANT: The completed OLA is then automatically forwarded to the ERASMUS office. In order to be able to verify the confirmation of the student counselling service, please send us the signed ‘Antrag auf Genehmigung’ at the same time. Only once we have received the confirmation from the student counselling service we can accept the OLA and send it to the partner university for further processing.

ATTENTION: Our ERAMSUS+ contracts are ONLY valid for the respective educational science or pedagogical faculty. If you would also like to attend courses from other subject areas, we must clarify in advance with the partner university whether this is possible.

Semester of leave 🖉

Remember to apply for a semester of leave when you re-register for the new semester at Humboldt University. Don't forget that you also have to re-register for each new semester at HU during your one-year study abroad programme.

It is not necessary to fill out the ‘Application for approval’ form again, but please forward to us the e-mail correspondence between you two. The amended OLA will then be processed by us and subsequently signed by the ERASMUS coordinator at the partner institution.
