My research connects sociology of science and sociological higher education research. I am interested in academic careers, processes of evaluation, disciplines, and social inequality. Studying these issues, I draw on a variety of qualitative methods, from document analysis to interviews and discourse analysis to ethnographic approaches.
Currently I am principal investigator of two research projects, both funded by the German Research Foundation: one is concerned with academic socialization at the the post-doc stage (with Kathia Serrano Velarde, Heidelberg University), the other with disciplinary differences in funding programs dedicated to risky research.
After obtaining my PhD at the University of Bamberg in 2014, I was a Feodor Lynen Postdoctoral Research Fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. This allowed me to do research stays at the University of Warwick, UK (2014), at Northeastern University, MA, USA (2015), and at Harvard University, MA, USA (2016). Before coming to Berlin in 2021, I was principal investigator of a research project funded by the German Research Foundation at the University of Bonn (2015-2018) and postdoc at the Leibniz University Hannover (2018-2021), which is also where I obtained my Habilitation.
