Dear students
We are delighted that you would like to write your thesis in our department. The thesis is a major project that you are responsible for. We would like to give you an overview of what you need to do not only during, but also before and after writing your thesis to make it easier for you to orientate and structure yourself. Accordingly, we have put together a few hints and tips for you.
Exemplary procedure
1. Inform yourself
- Find out more about research interests on the departments' homepages
- Topic should be of interest to you and your supervisor
2. Enquiry/ confirmation from supervisor
- Plan in advance ( department capacities/ supervision bottlenecks)
- After approval, first interview with supervisor --> topic roughly determined
3. Exposé
- Start extensive research
- Define a specific question
- Write & revise the exposé in consultation with your supervisor
4. Register your thesis

5. Writing your thesis
- Consultation with supervisor versus independent work
- Time management: Plan for proofreading, revision and printing
6. Submission
- Timely submission
- 6 weeks for assessment by first and second examiner
- Plagiarism scan
