Empirical teaching and learning research under conditions of migration-related heterogeneity
The professorship “Empirical teaching and learning research under conditions of migration-related heterogeneity” is a bridge professorship between the Berlin Institute for Empirical Integration and Migration Research (BIM) and the Institute of Educational Sciences.
The research of the department deals with the opportunities and challenges of teaching and learning in an immigration society. We investigate individual, family and institutional conditions that influence the educational success, but also the emotional and social adaptation of children and young people in the German education system. The central questions to which we are looking for answers are: Under what conditions does the educational integration of immigrants and their descendants succeed? What factors hinder it? And how can they be effectively supported? We take a societal perspective and focus not only on immigrant learners, but also on members of the majority society.
The courses offered by the department are primarily aimed at students on teacher training courses.
