Research topics

In our research group, we are interested in understanding how students deal with the challenges and changes of digitalization in their studies and future work environments and – more specifically in the context of teacher education – how to support (future) teachers in leveraging the potential of digitalization for their pedagogical practices at schools. In this regard, one important focus of our work lies on the promotion of argumentation and (critical) reflection skills as building the basis for media education.

Our research activities draw on socio- and mediapsychological as well as pedagogical-psychological approaches by addressing the following topics:

  • (computer-supported) collaborative learning / argumentation

  • online (knowledge) communication / dealing with scientific information

  • digital competencies (e.g. information literacy, critical thinking/reflection skills)

  • digitalization and innovation in higher education
