My research combines sociological science and higher education research. I work on academic careers and assessment processes, scientific disciplines and social inequality. In my research, I use a variety of qualitative methods, from document analyses, interviews and discourse analyses to ethnographic approaches.
I am currently leading two research projects, both of which are funded by the German Research Foundation: One project deals with internationality in the postdoc phase (co-lead with Kathia Serrano Velarde, University of Heidelberg). The second project is dedicated to disciplinary differences in the promotion of risky research.
After completing my doctorate at the University of Bamberg in 2014, I was a Feodor Lynen Postdoctoral Fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. This enabled me to undertake research stays at the University of Warwick, UK (2014), at Northeastern University, MA, USA (2015), and at Harvard University, MA, USA (2016). Before coming to Berlin in 2021, I led a DFG-funded project at the University of Bonn (2015-2018) and was a postdoc at Leibniz Universität Hannover (2018-2021), where I also completed my habilitation.
