Visiting Scholar

Vita

Vera Gorodski Centeno is a post-doctoral researcher at KUPOLI (a Research Unit focusing on the Sociology and Politics of Education) at the University of Helsinki. She works in the project "Transnational Dynamics of Quality Assurance and Evaluation in Brazil, China and Russia", a consortium project funded by the Academy of Finland. Focusing particularly on the Brazilian educational arena, she analyses the constitutive effects of national and transnational quality assurance and evaluation policies and practices on Brazilian educational reforms and discussions. She completed her PhD here at the Centre for Comparative and International Education in 2014 (funded by the FCT, the Portuguese national funding agency for science, research and technology). While in her PhD she explored transnational policymaking – disentangling the complexities of early OECD discussions on education policy, focusing on both the conceptual and organisational changes taking place within the OECD (1960s-1980s) – in her current research stay at the Centre she is working on the development of an approach through which the intertwinement of sub-national, national and transnational developments, and its impact on concrete policies and practices, could be conceived of.
