Language skills

- Why do I want to study abroad?
- Why do I want to study at a particular university?

- Curriculum vitae in tabular form
- Proof of academic achievements (AGNES printout, Bachelor's certificate if applicable)
- Copy of study certificate
- Language certificate (not older than 2 years, can be submitted later in exceptional cases, e.g. HU language certificate B2 or equivalent language certificates e.g. Unicert II, TOEFL, Abitur certificate in the case of the French subject taken during stays in France)
In case you also applied at another institute, please let us know.
If you study at another institute of Humboldt University applications are generally possible. However, please note that you must always study at our partner institute, i.e. the Institute of Educational Sciences. If you want to attend courses outside this institute at the partner university, you should get in contact with that partner university.
Financing
Make sure you have sufficient funding for your studies abroad in good time. Find out about the possibility of receiving BAföG abroad (ERASMUS grants are exempt from charges up to €300 per month). Parallel or double funding for similar costs from other EU programmes or the DAAD is not possible.
Subsidy
The subsidy is currently between €540 and €600, depending on the country. This is defined on the basis of the living costs of the country. Further information is available you can find at the International Office.
Additional funding
Students with children, students with disabilities or chronic illnesses, working students and first-time academics can apply for a social top-up of €250. Further information is available you can find at the International Office.
Preparation for your stay abroad
Contact the partner university
IMPORTANT: Please make sure you meet all deadlines, otherwise you may be excluded from the exchange programme.
Online Learning Agreement (OLA)
As soon as possible, you should inform yourself about the course catalogue of the partner university and select suitable courses. Please make sure that you have actually selected the appropriate semester and that the courses are not those of the current semester.
An Online Learning Agreement (OLA) is concluded before the start of your stay. In the Learning Agreement, you specify which courses you would like to attend at the partner university and for which courses at HU you would like them to be recognised.
IMPORTANT: Before completing the OLA, please attend the compulsory information event and, if you have any further questions, our consultation at the Erasmus office. Current information about the event can be found in the contact details of our ERASMUS office.
You should aim for 25-30 ECTS (credits) per semester. Please contact your student academic advisor at an early stage to find out which planned courses can be credited and whether your own study plan may need to be adjusted. In order to prove that your courses will be recognised, please have the "Antrag auf Genehmigung" (formular for approval) signed by the student academic advisor.
IMPORTANT: The completed OLA is then automatically forwarded to the ERASMUS office. In order to be able to verify the confirmation of the student counselling service, please send us the signed ‘Antrag auf Genehmigung’ at the same time. Only once we have received the confirmation from the student counselling service we can accept the OLA and send it to the partner university for further processing.
ATTENTION: Our ERAMSUS+ contracts are ONLY valid for the respective educational science or pedagogical faculty. If you would also like to attend courses from other subject areas, we must clarify in advance with the partner university whether this is possible.
Semester of leave
Remember to apply for a semester of leave when you re-register for the new semester at Humboldt University. Don't forget that you also have to re-register for each new semester at HU during your one-year study abroad programme.
Start of your stay abroad
Please follow all the instructions on the homepage of the International Office on the subject of After your arrival.
Changes to your OLA
If you wish to make changes to your OLA, please first clarify with the academic advisor whether the changes will be accepted. It is not necessary to fill out the ‘Application for approval’ form again, but please forward to us the e-mail correspondence between you two. The amended OLA will then be processed by us and subsequently signed by the ERASMUS coordinator at the partner institution.
