Vergleichende Erziehungswissenschaft: Projekt Doctoral Students Flow

International Flows of Doctoral Students
The internationalization of higher education in its various aspects is presently one of the most discussed issues in educational research and politics. The primary aim of this project is to investigate how and why migrant doctoral students chose their host higher education institution and to analyze regional differences in this respect. The purpose of this study is thus to find some explanations for the attraction of both certain countries and certain universities, and for the ongoing distribution of international doctoral students throughout the world in a context of global competition. In a wider sense, this project intends to contribute, from the point of view of international doctoral students, to the current debate on the impact of globalization on higher education and research. The aims stated will be fulfilled through a comparative study comprehending three of the most important host countries of international students: the USA, Germany and Australia. The comparative dimension of this study will be essential to understand the global and regional trends that are at stake in the international student flows issue.
