My fields of studies are school as an institution/school and balance of power in the USA and Mexico as well as the topics of “school and market” and “school and nation”. The theoretical background of my work is based on Critical Theory, Cultural Studies and Neo-Marxism, often completed by Queer Studies. The work with texts and graphic materials as sources takes place with the help of (serial-iconographic) photo analysis and text-hermeneutical/discourse-analytical methods.
The main subjects of my dissertation are the photographical work of Lola Álvarez-Bravo from the 1930s on behalf of the Mexican Ministry of Education, José Vasconcelos’ and José Enrique Rodó’s essays on education from the late 19th and early 20th centuries as well as school as a place of social conflicts and negotiation processes in the young Mexican state using the example of the federal state of Yucatán in the 1930s.
